Community History Gallery: Folk Arts for Social Change
Since 1987 the Philadelphia Folklore Project has chronicled and promoted the city’s rich folk life. By examining the customs of people who have been here generations and those who have just arrived, the Project deepens public understandings of local arts and the communities that create them. Folk Arts for Social Change showcases one of the Folklore Project’s signature community-based initiatives, an exhibition exploring the ways Philadelphia artists honor ancestors of African-rooted dance and drum traditions.
The Community History Gallery showcases exhibitions designed and installed by Philadelphia-based community groups, schools, or non-profit organizations about their work and history. The Philadelphia History Museum is now accepting proposals for groups interested in exhibiting in the Community History Gallery.
