Stop Making Sense

Tuesday, January 30

Film Suburbs & Beyond

Widely considered one of the greatest rock films of all time, Stop Making Sense captures the innovative art-rock band Talking Heads, fronted by the legendary David Byrne. Filmed over three nights at the Hollywood Pantages Theater in 1983, director Demme chose to set the cameras as far from the stage as possible so as not to interfere with the elaborate staging and unique artistic elements of the concert. Opening on a sparse stage with only Byrne and a boombox, the band and the arrangements (not to mention Byrne’s suit) build to remarkable heights in this extraordinarily original and expertly crafted film.
