Workshop: An Imaginative Approach to Jewelry Making with Douglas Wunder

Saturday, February 10 through Sunday, February 11

Art Suburbs & Beyond

Join Douglas Wunder for this creative jewelry making workshop! This workshop is intended to familiarize students with understanding of how a design is transformed into art. This will involve creating an object on paper that incorporates; scale, balance perspective and contrast.

These concepts will then be developed into metal objects using the techniques of piercing, sawing and cold connecting with rivets. Students will create wearable art pieces based on discussion and hands on experience. The project will focus on making pendants from hand sawed pieces of metal sheet, then layered and connected with wire. Participants are encouraged to come with an imaginative, experimental approach to jewelry making.

About Douglas: When Douglas was five he began making plastic models. He focused on science fiction related themes and subjects of World War Two. The seeds for jewelry design began at an early age and took form in college.

With continued years of interest, Douglas developed unique skills for making miniature objects. In college at The University of Iowa , Douglas became interested in studio art, gravitating to metalsmithing and jewelry design. By the time he graduated, the years of making models and the education in metalworking provided opportunities for professional success.
