House of Games

Tuesday, May 1

Film Suburbs & Beyond

A wealthy psychologist (Lindsey Crouse) enters the neon-lit House of Games, where she is hoodwinked by a con man (Joe Mantegna). Thrilled by the experience and fascinated by his craft, she follows him into a world where nothing is as it seems. Unfolding in concentric layers of mystery, Mamet’s directorial debut tenders his central theme—the dynamics of deception and manipulation that work their way into everyday human communication. As they say in the con game, “everybody gets something out of every transaction.”
