Film History Suburbs & Beyond

As King Admetus lies on his deathbed, his wife Alceste offers her life to Apollo in his place. Moved by her devotion, the god allows her to return from the dead. Adapted from the play by Euripides, Christoph Willibald Gluck's "reform opera" helped revive the form during the 18th century.
