Film History Suburbs & Beyond

New York, 1971. There’s a party on the stage of the Weismann Theatre. The iconic building is to be demolished the next day. Thirty years after their final performance, the Follies girls gather to have a few drinks, sing a few songs and lie about themselves.

Staged for the first time at the National Theatre and directed by Dominic Cooke, this dazzling new production of Stephen Sondheim’s legendary musical stars Tracie Bennett, Janie Dee and Imelda Staunton as the magnificent Follies. Winner of Academy, Tony, Grammy and Olivier awards, Sondheim’s previous work includes A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd and Sunday in the Park with George.

Please note: Follies contains two 15 second incidents of strobe lighting approximately 1:50 into the performance during Buddy’s folly.
