King Lear

Thursday, November 8 through Tuesday, November 27

Film Suburbs & Beyond

As he divides his empire, the aging King Lear engages his three daughters in a disastrous contest of flattery that ends with the banishment of his only honest child. The act unleashes a tornado of pitiless ambition and treachery as family and state are plunged into a violent power struggle with bitter ends. Having remarked that it will likely be his “last big Shakespeare part," Ian McKellen assumes the title role in Jonathan Munby's contemporary retelling of Shakespeare’s ultimate tragedy.
