A down-on-his-luck songwriter (Dick Van Dyke) sets up a publicity stunt for newly-drafted rock n' roller Conrad Birdie (Jesse Pearson)—before he ships out, the singer will croon a tune (and give a farewell smooch) to a member of his fan club. But when Birdie arrives in Sweet Apple, Ohio to deliver the prize to the lucky fan (Ann-Margret), the town erupts into chaotic celebrity-hysteria. This hilarious musical spoof of Elvis-mania features classic songs like "Put on a Happy Face," "A Lot of Livin' to Do," and, of course, "Bye Bye Birdie."
