Exploring Abstraction: Developing a Visual Language
This class will emphasize working in series as a process or a method of formatting practice.
Working in series is an excellent way to give focus to the practice of art, which in turn creates momentum.
Rather than face a blank canvas with too many possibilities, the parameters of a series creates clarity and a starting point. By considering the series a basic unit of art making, the artist can let go of the "preciousness" of the individual piece.
Using paint, collage, and drawing media, students will work in multiples based on specific guidelines and examples. As the class progresses, students will work more independently, creating their own parameters and starting points. Most importantly, students will learn the practice of working in series as a way to keep creativity flowing.
This is a 10 week class. No class on 11/24/21.
