Paris is Burning

Jennie Livingston’s groundbreaking documentary celebrates the late ’80s NYC ball culture, where queer people of color joined in surrogate families (“houses”) to compete for dominance in dance, posing, and presentation. Intimate and iconic, Paris is Burning paints an unforgettable portrait of resilience, expression, and extravagance.

Presented in partnership with the Bi-Co Program in Gender and Sexuality Studies, this screening will be introduced by historian of sexuality Bridget Gurtler, Ph.D., who will faciliate a post-film discussion.
